Digital Archive

The Society has an ever-growing digital archive, mainly of photos but also of historic documents and oral recordings. It can be accessed in the Society’s HISTORY ROOM. We hope one day to put the whole archive online but that will be a large and expensive undertaking. In the meantime, some of it can be viewed online in the GALLERY. The archive is a direct outcome of the Historic Cottingham Project, which was initiated in 2003 with funding from the Local Heritage Initiative (a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Nationwide Building Society and the Countryside Agency) and with additional grants from the Swift Group Ltd and the James Reckitt Trust. Other outcomes were a heritage trail leaflet, HISTORIC COTTINGHAM WALK, still available free of charge, and a substantial book, Cottingham in the 20th Century (Highgate of Beverley, 2005), researched and written by members of the Society, edited by John Markham, and now out of print.
