The East Riding Heritage Open Days in 2026 will be from Friday September 11th to Sunday September 20th. Cottingham will make its chief contribution on Saturday 12th, when the following places of historical interest will be open:

• Cottingham Methodist Church (built in 1878) from 9.30 until 13.00, offering a display of the church’s history and tea and coffee.
• St Mary’s Church (mainly 14th-century) from 9.30 until 17.30, offering a tour at 11.00, lasting about an hour.
• Zion United Reform Church (built in 1819) from 10.00 until 16.00, offering tours of the church.
• Cottingham Local History Society’s History Room in the Council Offices, Market Green, from 9.30 until 16.30 for book sales and an Exhibition about Cottingham Pubs from the 18th to the 21st centuries.
• Cottingham Civic Hall, Market Green, from 12.00 until 14.00.
• Southwood Hall grounds (but not the house), in Burton Road (built about 1660) from 10.00 until 16.00.
• Thwaite (Botanical) Gardens at 57 Thwaite St, from 10.00 until 16.00; also open on Sunday 13th September (same times).

Guided Historical Walk. On Saturday 12th September Peter McClure will give an afternoon guided walk of about an hour and a half, starting at 14.00 outside the Civic Hall. The walk will begin and end at Market Green, going up Finkle St to West Green and returning down Hallgate. Numbers are limited to 15 and booking is essential using one of the Society’s two email addresses: <info@cottinghamyorkshirehistory.co.uk> and <cottinghamlocalhistorysociety@gmail.com>. Booking opens on September 1st and closes at midnight on September 10th, first come, first served.
